04.03.08 - Miss GEICO Set to Start Record-Breaking Season at Smokin’ the Sound in Biloxi

World’s fastest Offshore Powerboat racing Team to Wow Fans with Fierce Speed and Performance

BILOXI, MS - (April 4, 2008) –Miss GEICO – one of the world’s fastest offshore powerboats – is gearing up for a weekend of precedent-setting performance at the Smokin’ the Sound offshore races in Biloxi, MS this weekend.

The 2007 season will be known as the “Year of the Turbine” by the time the season comes to a close in December after the notable entry of turbine-powered powerboats that have entered the performance class this year. “We’ve done exactly what we set out to do…” said John Haggin, owner of the Miss GEICO racing enterprise. “…Make the performance class a competitive contest that seriously defines our great sport of powerboat racing.”

That definition in 2008 will come on the heels of a heated 2007 season for the performance class of offshore powerboat racing that was dominated by Miss GEICO with the acquisition of countless checkered flags, new speed records and Miss Long Lite, a Mystic boat that tops speeds of 200 mph. “We’re ready for a season like we’ve never seen before,” said Marc Granet, Miss GEICO driver. “We have the people, equipment and commitment in place to claim victory at every race of this season.”

With stops throughout the country – 2008 promises to be filled with seat-gripping excitement. “Smokin the Sound” an extended weekend event will set the stage for power-packed performance – both on and off the water. More than 30 boats in nine different categories will wake up the crowd with wild racing – but no race or team will make more of an impression than Miss GEICO.

“Our team has grown to be an experience for the race fan,” said Throttleman Scotty Begovich. “We’ll start in the dry pits where we’ll have the boats displayed for fans and fellow racers. There will be fellowship, fun and race preparation. Then when  it’s time to get out on the water, we’ll be there ready to make magic happen”

Haggin, the team’s owner added, “One of the best pieces of being a part of this sport is the opportunity we have to interact with our fans at each venue. They make the difference and everything we do comes back to them.”
